“Auld Reekie” (Excerpt) Gibb\Walsh
Robert had spent the winter of 1786-1787 in Edinburgh and had made quite an impact on society there as well as publishing the second (Edinburgh) edition of his poems.
In “Auld Reekie” Robert’s friend, the lawyer Gavin Hamilton, is astonished and dismayed to discover that Burns also intends to spend the winter of 1787-1788 in Edinburgh and attempts to give Robert some advice on the perils he might face in the big city, over a glass or two of whisky !
